Dr. Ericka Oliver Martin is a native of Jackson, Mississippi where she graduated from the Jackson Public School District. Upon graduating from high school, Dr. Martin received a Presidential Scholarship Award from Jackson State University and was selected to become a member of the W.E.B. DuBois Honors College. Dr. Martin earned both the Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in English from Jackson State University. Furthermore, she excelled academically as a National Dean’s List scholar and was chosen to be honored in the national publication of Who’s Who Among Students in America’s College and Universities. Dr. Martin also became a member of several distinguished national honor societies including Alpha Chi, Alpha Lambda Delta, and most notably, Phi Kappa Phi. Upon graduation, she received the Community Service Award from the Department of English and the Jacksonian Award of
Excellence presented by the JSU National Alumni Association. Dr. Martin later earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Educational Administration from Jackson State University.

Dr. Martin is a distinguished educator and dedicated mentor in the community. She began her career as an English teacher at Forest Hill High School in the Jackson Public School District. In this capacity, she was a member of the Mississippi Council of the Teachers of English and the Mississippi Association of Educators. Dr. Martin has also worked as an Assistant Professor of English at Tougaloo College where she served as the Institutional Effectiveness Coordinator for the English Department. She later became an Instructor of English in the Department of English and Modern Foreign Languages at Jackson State University. She was also selected to serve as the academic advisor for the Bridge to the Future Program for entering freshman students in the Division of Undergraduate Studies at Jackson State University. Dr. Martin has been recognized in the national publication of Who’s Who Among Teachers in America’s Colleges and Universities for her outstanding work in the field of education.

In addition to her academic and professional achievements, Dr. Martin is very active in contributing to her local community. Dr. Martin is currently a member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. – Jackson MS Chapter.  She has also volunteered with Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi and is a member of the Parent Teacher Organization within the Madison County School District. Dr. Martin attends Greater Mt. Calvary M.B. Church where she serves as a Deaconess on the Deacon’s Wives Council.  She was previously chosen as the Annual Women’s Day Speaker and is a member of the Women’s Missionary Society.  Additionally, Dr. Martin assists the Young Women’s Auxiliary and has served as a teacher with the Vacation Bible School Program.  Dr. Ericka O. Martin is married to Attorney Warren L. Martin, Jr. and they have two beautiful children: Erin Olivia Martin and Warren Louis Martin, III. Dr. Martin is committed to faithfully serving God in her home, church, and community.
